Mission Statement
Our mission is to fill a large gap in the beauty industry: the lack of curly and afro hair education.
Our goal is for the industry to reflect a universal standard of beauty, and empower everyone to learn texture. Whether you are a hairstylist, parent, person with naturally curly or afro textured hair, or someone simply looking to learn a new skill, you will have something to take away from this platform.
Our long term goal is to complete a full course library and grow our platform, in order to build Canada's 1st Textured Hair Curriculum and open an Inclusive Beauty School
Our Story
It all started in October 2020, at the cusp of the global
pandemic and not too long after the tragic deaths of
Breyonna Taylor, George Floyd, and others.
These
deaths inspired protestors everywhere to demand
justice for black and BIPOC lives, as well as to shed
light on the depths of systemic racism.
The beauty industry was definitely no exception.
Conversations ignited surrounding racial injustice
within the Industry, and inspired Beauty
professionals and influencers around the world, to
address the lack of textured hair education.
However, the real work to build a beauty school
curriculum that teaches the full spectrum of textured
hair, has yet to be implemented, and Textured Hair EDU
aspires to change this. When Textured Hair EDU started
on Instagram, TK hosted free seminars, LIVE Conversations,
and educational videos and guides, in order to build
more awareness around textured hair education.
Those that followed the platform started to feel more empowered and informed with every new post. In June 2021, TK decided to expand the platform to offer more quality education, and introduced it's first paid class, "The Press It Out Workshop". With the success of this class, TK was inspired to transcend the platform online and offer training in Curly and Afro Hair.
From there, texturedhairedu.com was born.

Meet Our
founder
TK is the visionary, force, and inspiration behind the Textured Hair EDU platform. She is a hairstylist based in Toronto, ON Canada, who specializes in colour and textured hair services.
She is highly passionate about her craft, and finds inspiration through shaping curls and afros, as well as creating lived in blonde transformations. TK first taught herself about textured hair 13 years ago, and has been a beauty professional for 8 years.
TK made the decision to create Textured Hair EDU, based on her own frustrations around the lack of adequate textured hair education. After connecting with different stylists that she knew and met online, it was clear that many didn't even know the basics, and something needed to be done.
TK has dreams of a future where everyone (yes everyone) can walk into a salon and get serviced, no matter the hair type.
